ACS Trip to Pierre

Yesterday, Dr. Meyer and ACS members went to Pierre to make ice cream at the capitol! They were able to talk with the lawmakers of South Dakota and tell them the great things ACS and the School of Mines are doing in Rapid City!
Dr. Meyer demonstrates the corn starch flamethrower at the engineering week "magic shows!" We saw over 500 students last week! Here is one of the highlights!

Hydrogen Balloons + Gun Cotton

In one of Thursdays demos we mixed gun cotton and hydrogen balloons and the result was extraordinary!! The sparkles that you see at the end are magnesium shavings we mixed in!
Chemistry Department Tours

We had a great time doing science demos for the Chemistry department tours yesterday! 524 middle school students saw our magic show. Here is one of our favorite demos --- magnesium shavings in a hydrogen balloon!
Snow Day with Liquid Nitrogen

Although it may be cold outside, our liquid nitrogen is colder (-320.1 F)! Here is a video of us freezing ice cream with liquid nitrogen! This was filmed at Grubby's birthday last Saturday!

Today we broke out the Ruben's tube! We pump natural gas through one end of the pipe and have a speaker on the other side. As the opera music plays you can see the various sound waves, in FIRE!! We hope to incorporate this demo in our next show!
