SDSM&T Baja SAE 2019
Each and every year the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Baja SAE team designs, manufactures, and tests a one-man off-road vehicle to compete at the highest level of collegiate engineering. While engineering the vehicle, we also learn valuable skills in marketing, resource management, and fundraising. In order to achieve and learn within our organization, we need support from our faculty, students, and donors.
For the previous year’s competition, we traveled to Portland, Oregon to participate in the 2018 Baja SAE Competition. It was a stiff competition with nearly 100 teams registered from all around the globe. A variety of events push the vehicle to its limits by challenging its durability and proficiency. Out of all the teams registered, we managed to place 25th overall, four positions better than the prior year! In particular, we were able to place 13th in the Maneuverability event.
As for this year, our competition takes us to Quail Motocross Park near Gorman, California from May 16th to 19th, 2019. Although most of our fundraising has been completed this year, our largest expense is the travel costs to get us to and from competition. For this reason, we need your help! With your donations, we'll be able to take more students to competition who have devoted time to this organization all year. To spice it up this year, we've created some milestones including some of the team's officers:
$500 - Hayley gets a pie to the face
$1000 - Landon wears a chicken costume for an entire workday
$2000 - Casey and Brayden paint each other's fingernails blue and gold
$2500 - Ethan performs a polar plunge
$3000 - Sam, Walter, and John take on Buffalo Wild Wings' "Blazin' Wing Challenge"
$4000 - Austin dyes his hair blue and silver
$5000 - Quintan "Q-bacca" gets his chest waxed
As the milestones are completed, the task will be recorded and posted to the "updates" section of this page so we strongly encourage you to follow our Facebook and Instagram and visit this page again for updates!
